Down for you

Analysis

Emmet Glascott Featuring: Gillian Baci | Genre: Tropical House | Release Date: 12th October, 2018

Down For You is a 'make-up' song about going back to the one you love— whom you broke up with—even though it means going against yourself. In writing these words, the aim was to recreate something that anyone who has had to go back to a love that also brought them pain could relate to. Melodically, the choice was made to match the beat’s dynamic nature. This first verse serves as an introduction to the issue at hand; following the break-up, you’re having regrets and second-guessing your decision to leave. The third line highlights the duality of your relationship with the person and the power they have over you, seeing they hold both pain and pleasure. The last two lines serve as a refrain, teasing the song’s major point. The first line of the pre-chorus piggybacks on the image in the song’s first line. The second highlights the seriousness of the conundrum you find yourself in. The next two lines show the battle that rages within still. Although your lover brings hell, the refrain (last two lines) hits again, this time, stronger than the first. This leads us into the main decision that lays in wait at the chorus. This chorus delivers the song’s main message: you can come back and break me again because I’d rather be with you, and even if I have to fight myself, then I’ll go down for you.

General chord progression throughout is D A G Bm.

Lyrics

(Verse 1) Now I’m back here and I’m thinking I’m screaming, I’m feeling I don’t know. I wanted out but now I can’t think of any reason to let go. Drowned me in pain but you’re also the one that holds all’a the pleasure. I will die for you, fight myself, go down for you.

(Verse 2) You got me here now. You're knelling and begging for me not to let go. You broke the walls and you left our love in the eye of the cold storm. I take my pieces and mend them so we can go back to the summer cause I will die for you. Fight myself go down for you.

(Pre-Chorus) Got me in silence. Thinking of violence. I cannot take it. Unwilling resistance. You are my heaven and you bring me hell too. Still I will die for you, fight myself, go down for you.

(Chorus) Why don’t you come have another piece of me. You take one and you can get two more for free. You can take it all you can leave with me. I will die for you. Fight myself go down for you.

(Bridge) Oh baby, Oh baby go down for you. Oh baby,  oh fight myself go down for you. For you. (x10)

(Chorus) Why don’t you come have another piece of me. You take one and you can get two more for free. You can take it all, you can leave with me. I will die for you. Fight myself go down for you.  (x2)
